Wing and Arrow Lace Scarf
This pattern is a simple eight row repeat, and should be no challenge for experienced lace knitters, and should be a good challenge for those who are beginning to tackle it.
Finished Measurements
Width: 9 inches
Length: 66 inches
To make scarf wider or narrower you can use larger or smaller yarn or needles, or add or subtract multiples of 16 stitches and changing the number of times you repeat the lace pattern. To make scarf longer or shorter, simply knit until you are happy with the length.
Materials
-Approximately 6 balls of yarn, of any kind you desire, but make sure it isn’t too bulky. The yarn I used was mystery yarn from Goodwill, and seemed to vary in it’s weight, but was usually a fingering/sport weight. You can use all one color, one color per half, two colors with stripes, or anything you want. Feel free to get creative.
-You will also need two needles, either straight, or double pointed. Or, you can use a long circular needle, which is how mine was made. No matter what you decide to use, you will need one extra needle in the same or similar size for the bind off. I used size US 3 for my scarf.
Gauge
4 stitches/8 rows = 1 inch, approximately. Gauge is by no means crucial.
Key
k = knit 1 stitch
p = purl 1 stitch
k2tog = knit two stitches together
ssk = slip two stitches knitwise, knit together through the back loop
yo = yarn over
Pattern Notes
This scarf is knit in two halves, and pieced together with the 3-needle bind-off. It can also be knit all in one piece if you prefer, but the arrows and lace will all face one direction rather than meeting in the middle. It should look equally nice either way. Another note, I used three stitches on each end to form a moss stitch edge. You can, of course, do some other kind of edge, by simply ignoring the first and last three stitches of each row and substituting your own.

Repeat rows 1-8 until you have either used up half of your yarn/reached half your desired length, or until you are a few inches shorter of your desired length. If you wish to do this scarf in two pieces, simply stop at your halfway point (after row 8), set this aside, knit another identical section, and use the 3 needle bind off to join them together. If you wish to knit this in one piece, simply end the scarf by repeating the border rows again.
Finishing
Weave in all ends. If you desire, and your yarn calls for it, you may block your scarf. It was not necessary when I knit mine, so I left it undone.
This is my first pattern, so I hope that you like it. I pieced it together using a lace pattern from newstitchaday.com and a rib pattern from another online stitch dictionary. If you have any questions, suggestions, or other comments, feel free to email me at delightfulflorence@gmail.com.
